Comparing the NEW Brooks Ghost 6 vs. Ghost 5

Update: The Brooks Ghost 11 just came out! Check out all of the updates on the shoe you know and love!

The Brooks Ghost is a favorite among serious runners who crave a lighter shoe. This year’s update has a few changes, including a very obvious one for those who are all about their running form. So since we still have some of the 5th edition here at the stores, we can compare the two.

So what’s different? A lot is different. For one, the 6 weighs nearly a full ounce lighter according to our postage scale. Also the outsole, while still having the existing tech (Omni Groove line that allows the shoe to flex the way you run), the blown rubber is a bit more sticky and flexible. This allows for more grip on hard surfaces. What is missing through? The shank is removed, allowing for more of a smooth transition from heel to toe through the midfoot.

This allows for a more seamless transition, and more energy being transferred in your stride. Also, the upper has plenty of structure but doesn’t feel bulky. The great trait of these newer Brooks shoes is a feel of complete balance of the weight. While their weight on the scale is comparable of even heavier than some of their equivalent shoes, the balanced feel of these new Ghosts, Glycerins, and GTS Adrenalines make it feel lighter than it is.

As a whole, the Ghost is a change from last year that allows it to be a more versatile shoe. It’s still going to serve its fans well, but this shoe is better suited for runners and trainers of different varieties better than past versions. We here at SS are impressed with the Ghost 6, and will be comparing the updated Glycerin 11 as well in the near future.
