I just received the latest of the Asics 33 series, the Gel-Lyte 33. These are similar to the Blur33, yet Asics trimmed some outsole, and really jazzed the upper with bright lime and royal blue for the men’s; yellow and pink for the women’s. The mesh front half of the shoe is really breathable, but without the huge openings that some shoes have, and the seamless overlay resembles the promotion theme – The Secret Weapon of Fast – like an arrow shot from a crossbow. The shoes are really light, on our precision scale my size 11 weighs 8.5 ounces. A Nike Free Run weighs 9.3 in my size.
I have worn these around at work, and they feel pretty good, softer than the Blur33, a little snug over the instep, as are the Blur33’s.
I had a busy weekend, so only got out for a short tempo run, that’s what they’re designed for anyway, right? A little warm up, and I ran (I said short) a couple miles at my present fast pace. I do like the way these feel, the heel drop about half of the non-33 series Asics, and just soft enough. A nice natural stance and a quick feel with just enough cushion so as to not feel the road too much.
And of course, everyone remarks, “Wow, those are bright shoes!” That’s okay with me.
